Our Pre-Toddler Room - OPENED IN SEPTEMBER 2024

Our Pre-Toddler Room is designed to be flexible and stimulating environment which welcomes our pre-toddlers from the age of 12 months up to 2 years old.  Once our babies are confident walkers, we carefully transition them down to our Pre-Toddler Room so that they can confidently access the next progressive learning environment, designed to support their age and stage of development. The environment that we provide in the Pre-Toddler room has been designed as a "progressive" transition from our Baby Room. We work closely to ensure that our Pre-Toddler Room supports our children to be supported in fulfilling their ability to access the three main foundations of learning which are: Physical Developmet, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Speech, Language and Communication. We closely value the transition period from our Baby Room. Judgements are frequently made individually to ensure the environment, teaching and learning is appopriate and accessible for all. We work closely with parents and their child to understand their daily care routines and follow these as closely as possible to ensure their child feels safe and secure and their individual needs are fulfilled.

Our Pre-Toddlers are provided with a large, freeflow play area where space is arranged for free play or organised activities to meet each individual child’s needs and interests. The Pre-Toddler offers meaningful, age-appropriate materials and resources that children can freely choose from to initiate their own play, with the support from our fully qualified practitioners.

The Pre-Toddler room also has a messy area with sand, water and paint play. Messy play activities are  sensory based to support your child's sensory exploration in the early stages of their development, as well as building upon this for our older Pre-Toddlers to begin to allow the children to develop their own opportunities with provided messy play resources. These activities include, shaving foam fun, playdough, water play, sand play and creative experiences. The activities are planned by practitioners according to the age appropriateness of the children and their interests and abilities. Each child's interests are carefully considered when planning.

We have a large table in the centre of the room which is used for meal times, such as snack, lunch and tea times to encourage children to sit amongst their peers and enjoy the social interactions that meal times offer.

The Baby Room has a designated sleeping room with prams. Practitioners follow children's individual routines by placing children to sleep, if they require, following their sleeping preferences. Sleeping children are always monitored by watchful staff and is recorded as a means of valuing the importance of safe sleep. All practitioners have been briefed and trained to ensure children are safely monitored during their duration of sleep.

We have a chill out area which has been designed and arranged to provide a home-from-home feel with sofa's and a TV. We minimise the use of the TV during the sessions, however, can be used to provide learning opportunities and materials. This is used at times such as, music/dance time for the children to interact with interactive media.

Finally, we have a designated outdoor play area for the children in the Pre-Toddler Room, with age appropriate toys and learning experiences to enhance their learning outdoors.

Under two year olds are supervised by a fully-qualified practitioner in a ratio of 1:3. This ensures that children are under close supervision at all times to keep the children safe and their individual needs and routines can be closely followed.
